World Cup qualifiers: Serbia and Latvia on their way to national team in next round
Serbia and Latvia have done their duty and secured a ticket to the next qualifying round – where they will face Greece should they qualify.
With a second win in a row against Turkey, the men’s national team knows they are now just a yard away from the next stage of World Cup qualifying. The validation of a ticket for the final phase of the event was correspondingly tight, since in the next round the teams will carry their results (read the details in detail).
But overall, the men’s national team learned something else on the night of Monday 28 February: the two of the three teams set to meet in the next qualifying round. The reason for this was Serbia and Latvia, who immediately secured qualification by beating Slovakia and Belgium respectively.
The most important thing of the evening is undoubtedly Croatia’s away win against Sweden in the second extra time, a result that still gives “Hrvatska” hopes of a place in the next qualifying round.
Where they have already secured a presence France (4-0), Lithuania (4-0), Georgia (3-1) and Spain (3-0).
The results of the evening:
- Slovenia – Finland 79-83
- Slovakia – Serbia 63-71
- Turkey – Greece 67-76
- Poland – Estonia 70-68
- Latvia – Belgium 68-63
- Sweden – Croatia 98-105
- Germany – Israel 84-80
