Sant Ross: “A lot of young players don’t know what it takes to be at this level”

Howard Sand Ross blasted himself for Panathinaikos OPAP’s overall presence in the EuroLeague this season, citing a mental health issue within the team.

Panathinaiko’s OPAP suffered yet another humiliating defeat in the EuroLeague, prompting Howard Sand Ross to self-examine what’s wrong with the team this year. The Greens guard/forward didn’t hide behind his finger, said what he believed about the situation this year and stood in the dressing room on the part of the ghosts (unpreparedness).

At the same time, he mentioned the need for everyone to put aside what they don’t like in order for the team to move forward.

What he explained in detail:

It could be worse. There’s war, that’s really the worst. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose a match. I feel like we were all disappointed with the way we played in the first ten minutes. We could have gotten 10 points, but we could also have conceded 18 or 20 points. Not 30 points. This is not acceptable, especially if you are playing at home.

I think it’s a matter of unity. A lot of new players don’t have the full idea of what it’s like to be at this level, what it takes to be at this level. Unfortunately, neither I nor the other children have what we need spiritually. I feel like we can all play basketball, but when we talk about the EuroLeague it has a lot to do with the intellectual part. You have to be hard every night.

I think that overall we are not having a good time to stay together. I hope nobody will take what I’m saying personally, but I have a feeling that if someone has a problem with how we “run” offense and defense, someone else might have a problem because we’re not speaking on defense . We all have problems, things we need to work on. There is a lot to do because in the end the team is affected. So you have to put the rest aside and do your best for the team, whether you score 1 or 30 points“.
