Russia has been excluded from claiming the Eurobasket 2025
FIBA’s Executive Committee’s new decisions against Russia over the incursion of troops into Ukraine include the federation’s exclusion from hosting Eurobasket 2025.
FIBA continued to sanction Russia for its military intervention in Ukraine and decided to ban the federation from the Eurobasket 2025 nomination.
Russia was among the six countries that applied to host part of the event. Among them is Cyprus, for which the chances of receiving the anointing for one of the groups have increased. This applies respectively to Finland, Latvia, Hungary, but also to Ukraine, which completed the first group of 6 with files for assessment.
Also, it was decided by the Executive Committee that, until further notice, Russian teams are prohibited from participating in FIBA Europe inter-club competitions, as well as the participation of Russian officials, including representatives, coaches, referees, etc., for a corresponding period.
With it, the European Cups of the current season (EuroLeague Women, EuroCup Women and the FIBA Europe Cup) will continue without the representatives of Russian basketball. The list of excluded includes Ekaterinburg, Dinamo Kursk, MBA Moscow from EuroLeague Women, Saratov Avtodor from FIBA Europe Cup.
