FIBA apologized to Webanyama and fired the journalist
Immediate response from FIBA, who apologized to Victor Webanyama and fired the journalist who granted her the interview with the tall young man.
Victor Webanyama’s excitement over the interview published on the FIBA website prompted an immediate reaction from the World Basketball Federation, who apologized to the French great and acted quickly.
“An article purporting to be an interview with Victor Webanyama was recently published on the FIBA website. Following the athlete’s doubts regarding this interview, granted to FIBA by a French partner, its validity could not be confirmed. FIBA immediately retracted the article and all related social posts, while also ending their association with the respective freelance reporter. FIBA apologizes to Victor and France and wishes them the best for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers“, according to the position of the world association.
For the time being, however, the interview remains “in the air”.
