Iran were defeated by China (86-74) but qualified for the 2023 World Cup after Kazakhstan were defeated by Australia at the same time. Asia/Oceania courts are closed, see the 23 teams that checked their ticket.

Iran will be at the World Cup for the fourth time in a row. The Iranians couldn’t hold out against China (lost 86-74), but at the same time Australia did them a favor and defeated Kazakhstan (98-53) and sent them through Group F to the 2023 World Cup.

Following Iran’s qualification, seats for the continents of Asia/Oceania were closed after a holder was found for all 8 tickets. A total of 23 teams from around the world (including Greece) have their ticket checked, while many positions will be decided today (26/2) when the final game in Europe, America and Africa is scheduled.

The teams that qualified for the World Cup

  • From Europe: Latvia, Germany, Finland, Italy, Slovenia, Greece, France, Spain, Lithuania
  • From America: Canada, United States
  • From Asia/Oceania: Lebanon, New Zealand, Australia, China, Jordan, Iran, Philippines*, Japan*
  • From Africa: Ivory Coast, South Sudan, Egypt, Angola
    *Japan and the Philippines have been eliminated from the qualifying process as host countries, while Indonesia, despite hosting, will not take part in the World Cup after failing to finish in the top eight of the Asian Cup.
