Georgia of Zuro – Limniatis qualified for the World Championship for the first time
Iceland needed a win by at least four points, they prevailed in Georgia by three (80-77), but the Ilias Zouros – Giorgos Limniatis side were the ones to celebrate qualifying for the World Cup for the first time in their history.
Sunday night (2/26) was historic for Georgia basketball. The national team welcomed Iceland with two results in mind (win or lose with up to three points), bowing 77-80 and qualifying for the first time for the final stages of the World Cup, to be played in the Philippines, Indonesia and Japan from August 25th to September 10th.
The Ilias Zouros – Giorgos Limniatis team trailed by four (71-75) just before the final, where Toko Sengelia made 2/2 shots and after a layup missed by Elvar Fridriksson Thad McFadden, scored a three for a 76-. 75. And yet the match was not over. The Icelanders countered and took a three (77-80) lead only to see Sengelia miss shots before making the game-winning shot but finding an iron from the corner.
Giorgi Sermandini with 23 points (9/9 2 points in the second game in a row, he has 24/25 in the last three games) and Toko Sengelia (20 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) were the leaders with Elvar Georgia’s Fridriksson (25 points) and John Axel Gudmunsson (12 points, 10 rebounds) stand out from Iceland.

Krasnodar Lokomotiv-Kuban defeated Saratov Avtodor in a home match of the VTB United League regular season.

The Euroleague match between Hapoel Tel Aviv and Paris, which was planned to be played on Friday, January 9 at 20:00, will be postponed again.
The Reds had previously made an official request to the Euroleague management regarding this issue, and it is expected to be announced in the coming days.
The match will probably not be played on Friday evening and will be played around the February break for the national teams.
Hapoel management is unhappy with the behavior of the French club and its owner David Kahn. They claim that Paris refused to fly a connecting flight to Israel.
According to Euroleague rules, in double-header weeks, each team must reach the match arena by direct flight or travel no more than one and a half hours. However, the French refuse to attend the match on the grounds that it is against the regulations, as they will be playing in Türkiye, where there has been no direct flight to Israel since October 7.
Hapoel Tel Aviv also said that Paris refused to fly via Cyprus, which would ultimately lead to the postponement of the game.
In the statement made by the club, “Paris owner David Kahn insists on a direct flight to Israel, which is not possible from Türkiye. He is doing everything possible to avoid coming to Israel.”
Previously, there was news that there was a flu epidemic in one of Europe’s leading clubs.

CSKA Moscow defeated Enisey Krasnoyarsk in the VTB United League match.
The meeting took place on Sunday in Moscow and ended with a score of 102:79 (39:21, 24:20, 26:16, 13:22) in favor of the “red-blues”.
