War in Ukraine: Prometheus withdraws from BCL, disbands all divisions and becomes ‘sponsor’ of army
The decision to withdraw from the continuation of the Basketball Champions League and all other events in basketball and volleyball was made by Prometheus, with its president declaring that all the money will be used to strengthen the Ukrainian army.
The state of war in Ukraine has resulted in Prometheus, the only Ukrainian team participating in European competitions for both men and women, withdrawing from continuing the Basketball Champions League, as announced by its president Volodymyr Dubinsky.
In fact, as he said, all the money raised this season will be used to strengthen the Ukrainian army.
“Dear friends and fans of Prometheus. At the moment there is a war in Ukraine. It is a difficult but definitely right decision to withdraw all our teams and refuse to play in the BCL.
All our earnings are donated to the Ukrainian army to protect our country and support the people fighting for it. We will definitely win, first the win, then everything else.
This applies to both basketball and volleyball teams, while the men’s basketball team in Ukraine is at the top of the league. “On the morning of February 24, Ukraine was attacked by Russia and then many other cities fell victim to the invasion.”
