Basketball club CSKA, which secured the first place in the regular championship of the VTB United League ahead of schedule, showed its high level of professionalism, said Sergey Kushchenko, President of the VTB United League.

The army team secured the final victory when Nizhny Novgorod’s basketball players achieved a home win over Kazan’s UNICS on Monday (78:68). During the championship, CSKA updated the league record by winning 24 games in a row.

— This year the league has changed the format, the championship is held in two stages, and now the teams have a very tight schedule — the leaders play each other, and we have several matches with the prefix “super” every week.

All the more significant is the achievement of CSKA, which secured first place almost a month before the end of the regular season. Their 24-win streak is historic and a great gift to army fans for the club’s 100th anniversary season.

The leadership of CSKA, the coaching staff and the players showed their class and high level of professionalism – the army team is one of the main contenders for the Belov Cup in the decisive part of the championship. Once CSKA secured first place, they will have home court advantage at all stages of the playoffs.

At the same time, I can say that the whole struggle is still ahead – the competitors of the army team this season are very strong, and now they continue to fight for the “seeding” in the playoffs. Already there, we are waiting for a series of up to three, and starting from the semi-finals, up to four victories, which, I am sure, will become a real decoration of the season, ”Kushchenko told the Championship.

The regular season of the VTB United League will end on March 26, and the first round of the playoffs will start on March 31.
