A big double for Larissa, who beat Lavrio (91-77) made the difference and began to look to eighth place in the Stoiximan Basket League regular season.

Larissa celebrated her sixth win in 15 Stoiximan Basket League games on Sunday afternoon (March 6th). And what a victory. Fotis Takianos’ team overcame Lavrio (91-77), overtaking Christos Serelis’ team in the standings and finding themselves in the playoffs. He also got the difference since he lost the first round match by nine!

Lavrio fell to 5-10 (2-6 home and 3-4 away) who found no way to slow down Hutson, Maric, Tsairelis and Moody while Vassilis Mouratos kept the periphery low. Shots didn’t come in. The Thessalians had more balance, hit the racquet, reduced the mistakes in the second half and got the positive result fairly.

The race

Read at the beginning, the two teams went on big attacks, with Lavrio being very unlucky from the periphery (2/9 three points in the period). Larissa put the ball on the racket, took advantage of the home team’s seven fouls and scored from the line of fire, finishing the ten minutes with +3 (25:22), but her performance was not consistent. Lavrio responded with a partial 10-2 to take a four lead midway through the second before Savage fired at 43-32 and Thessaly responded with a small 0-7 that helped them close the gap before halftime . Their 12 mistakes obviously hurt and the hosts didn’t capitalize on them as well as they should, taking 12 points from them.

Larissa went into the second half at an impressive 4-14 to build a six-point lead (53-47) midway through the third third, with Maric having no opponent near the basket and Hudson 49-58 at 26 minutes scored. The final minutes of the quarter featured great basketball, but they also had a clear favorite as 58-68 gave Thessaly confidence, with Nikolaidis charged with an unsportsmanlike foul and technical penalty in 34 minutes. The difference went to 12 (66-78) and essentially the game settled there as Christos Serelis’ team had no other forces to claim anything more.
