Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sold 4 championship rings to raise money for youth program
Former Milwaukee and Los Angeles Lakers basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sold four of his championship rings, three Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and other valuables in 2019 to raise funds for a training program for youth, according to Yahoo News .
The ex-player managed to gain 2.8 million dollars.
“When it comes to choosing between keeping a championship ring or trophy in the room and giving kids the chance to change their lives, it’s pretty simple. Sell it all. Looking back at what I have done in my life, instead of looking at the brilliance of gems or gilding, I would rather look into the delighted face of a child and think about what I can do for their future. This is a story that has no price,” Abdul-Jabbar said earlier.
Abdul-Jabbar is a six-time NBA champion (1971, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988), he was recognized as the most valuable player in the NBA six times, and took part in the All-Star Games a record 19 times.
