Rick Pitino has found his next job
From Iona to St. John’s Rick Pitino, returning to legendary Madison Square Garden after 34 years.
Not only is Rick Pitino not giving up at the age of 70, but according to a report by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski he has been the new head coach at St. John’s University since Monday evening (March 20).
The American coaching legend left Iona University and is returning to Madison Square Garden, used by the St. John’s basketball team, a space where he lived as head coach of the New York Knicks from 1987-1989.
Pitino has won two collegiate championships, in 1996 with Kentucky and in 2013 with Louisville, and has also worked at Boston University, Providence University, the Knicks, the Celtics, Panathinaikos and the Greece national team.
“I’m not sad it’s over. I’m grateful it happened. To my players over the past three years, all I can say is you know how much I love you‘ were Pitino’s words on Twitter.
