MEDVEDENKO: “The Russians have already begun to be accepted. We have to put pressure on the sponsors.”
Ukrainian basketball player Stanislav Medvedenko The two-time NBA champion opposes a boycott of the 2024 Olympic Games if athletes from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus are allowed to compete in Paris:
“Our athletes need to participate in any case. Because boycott, in general, is to liquidate itself from this issue. To put it mildly, this is a position where we clear the way for the Russians and self-destruct.
Unfortunately, I would like to point out that we have already lost this game, the Russians have already begun to be allowed to participate in international competitions. This is tennis, fencing. This situation also showed that we (Ukrainian federations) have a very weak position among international federations.
The only thing that can help us in this situation right now is our government and Paris 2024 organizers putting pressure on the sponsors. And then the French, as the organizers of the Olympics, will take the position that they will not let the Russians and Belarusians. That’s the only thing that will help us.”
