Aris was amazing in the final half, turning the win over AEK (91-73) into a triumph he captured after the end of game 17 in the Stoiximan Basket League rankings.

Aris’ game against AEK was a derby for thirty minutes, that is, as long as Stefanos Dedas’ periphery was strong. As soon as the hosts stole balls and accelerated in attack, things took their course and Giannis Kastritis’ team achieved final dominance (91-73) for the 17th game of the Stoiximan Basket League.

Anthony Cowan Jr. and Homeros Netzipoglou were the ones who did the most damage to AEK’s defense, which Nikos Pappas had as the only reliable offensive solution for three seasons – Andy Routins took the lead when everything was decided.

With that ace, Aris has caught up with AEK in the Stoiximan Basket League standings (both teams now have 7 wins and 9 losses), but Aris is the one who is “up” in the tie, having lost -1 in the game has covered the first round.

The race

Aris had more energy in the first few minutes of the game and thanks to the talent of Anthony Cowan Jr. he found a way to build up the +6 (15-9 in 5′), but it spread very quickly. The entry of Nikos Pappas on the ground changed the data of the game, with Stefanos Dedas players scoring in bursts until the end of the first period, which put them at +8 (22-30) with a big gun of 7/ 11 two points , 5/10 three points and 11 assists (no error).

As effective as it was in the first ten minutes, Union was problematic in the second. Aris’ defense kept the guests without a point for almost six minutes (a time when Homeros Netzipoglou scored two consecutive three-pointers and changed his psychology), with the result that the lead changed hands and stayed with Giannis’ players until the end Castritis stayed break (44-41).

In the second half, Aris seemed more consistent in attack. Mainly because he had a lot of offensive poles against a team that expected (almost) everything from Nikos Pappas. The hosts kept the lead without any problems, the +3 (44:41) of the 30th minute didn’t save them in the least, especially since Stefanos Dedas’ team was within range despite the 9/24 three.

But in the last quarter it all ended within four minutes. Aris ran the streak it was looking for (14-0), with Anthony Cowan Jr. and Homeros Necipoglou breaking in the meantime. With the frantic pace they now had, it didn’t take Giannis Kastritis players long to hit +21 (83-62 in 36′) and somewhere there wrote the game’s epilogue.
