Journalist: Stepanovsky to head Ukraine national team
Vitaliy Stepanovsky, the former coach of the Ukrainian student team, became a candidate for the vacant position of the head coach of the national team.
According to journalist Oleksandr Proshuta on the Telegram channel, after long negotiations and negotiations, Stepanovsky was chosen by the Ukrainian Basketball Federation. The coach himself gave his consent. The appointment of Stepanovsky must be approved by the executive board of the FBU. It will be held on Tuesday, April 11th.
41-year-old Vitaliy Stepanovsky has been working in Romania for the past year and a half. This season, Craiova led the club to the 7th place LNBM playoffs.
Stepanovsky became a two-time champion with Khimik, and also led the Southern team to the silver and bronze medals of the Super League.
The Ukrainian student team led by Vitaliy Stepanovsky won the silver medal at the 2019 Universiade. Stepanovsky was part of the coaching staff of Ainars Bagatskis in the EuroBasket 2021 and 2023 World Cup selection, but did not go to the Euro as Vitaliy was working with the youth team.
