Latvia goes to Olympic Games 2024 and EuroBasket 2025 with Lukas Banki
Luka Banki led Latvia to World Cup qualifiers for the first time and the country’s basketball federation rewarded him with a two-year contract extension with a view to the Paris Olympics and EuroBasket 2025.
The Latvian Basketball Federation announced Luka Banki’s contract extension for another two years. Passing the bench from AEK, the Italian coach was the one who guided the Latvians to qualify for the 2023 World Cup that will be held from August 25th to September 10th in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, and everyone is hoping he can lead the push to qualify for both the Paris 2024 Olympics and EuroBasket 2025.
“Coach Banki’s creative approach and systematic work helped unleash the potential of the Latvian players and brought them their first World Cup qualification. In addition, the coach has shown that he can successfully combine working for the national team with his career at club level (see Banky also on the bench in Strasbourg)”said the federation’s president, Raymonds Vejonis.
Latvia, in particular, had 15 wins from 16 matches in the qualifying stage for the 2023 World Cup and are now waiting to find out their opponents in the April 29 draw in Manila.
