Mars: 29 years since his first European title
29 years ago, on March 16, 1993, Panagiotis Giannakis’ Aris celebrated his first European title by winning the Efes Pilsen in Turin.
It was March 16, 1993 when Aris won his first European Cup from Panagiotis Giannakis. Thessaloniki beat Efes Pilsen 50-48 Palazzetto dello Sport Parco Ruffini and celebrated their first title abroad.
That big moment for the club was recalled by KAE Aris, who took his fans back 29 years by posting on Instagram when captain Panagiotis Giannakis lifted the trophy with team-mate Roy Tarpley (he had scored 19 points in the final).
The Mars Post:
“It was March 16, 1993 when ARIS won its first European title.
Like 29 years ago today, the Svi Surf Efes team defeated Pilsen in the final of the Cup Winners’ Cup in Turin by 50:48 and won the cup.
Led by the great Panagiotis Giannakis, led by the late Roy Tarpley and a very strong ensemble, “The Emperor broke the pomegranate” abroad.
ARIS couldn’t lose this trophy, with 5,000 fans by his side who turned the “Palazzetto dello sport Parco Ruffini” into Alexandrio Melathro!
