Davis BERTANS: “The most important victory in Latvian basketball history”
The 30-year-old striker of the Latvian national team Davis Bertans He described the victory over France (88:86) at the World Championship as the main victory in Latvian basketball history.
“This is the most important victory in Latvian basketball history since 1935.
I am happy that most of our fans, who had come a long way to watch the match, gathered in the arena. We beat one of the best teams in the world and it felt like we were playing at home.
At one point in the third quarter we were down 11 points. Some teams would bow their heads, realizing that the opponent was stronger. But we kept on fighting because our fans were behind us. We knew we needed a chance and it came 37 seconds before the siren.
We have motivation. We’re not here to participate. “The more victories we have, the better our chances of doing something special,” said Bertans.
