Spanoulis: “I always wanted to go to Olympiakos, that’s why I chose it”
Vassilis Spanoulis told novasports that he always wanted to play for Olympiacos, even when he played for Marousi, but also when he left the NBA, as he wanted to lead a team to achieve its goals.
Vassilis Spanoulis’ big night is approaching. On September 17th, Olympiakos Piraeus will face Armani in a friendly match (8:00 p.m., Novasports 4) and will take off the jersey of the team legend. The Larissa guard – and current coach of Peristeriou bwin – referred to the reasons that made him wear the jersey, the big decision in 2010 and leaving Panathinaikos and moving to the “red and whites”.
In a preview of the interview he gave to the Novasports channels, Vassilis Spanoulis mentioned that he wanted to help Olympiacos return to the titles, adding that he always wanted to wear the team’s jersey. More precisely, from the time when he was still playing in Marousi – before moving to Panathinaikos – but also when he left the NBA and the Rockets in 2007 and signed with Panathinaikos.
Spanoulis explained specifically: “At this point, Olympiacos hadn’t had that much success in the last 15 years. He was behind in basketball titles. A team with so many people, with millions of people… I always wanted to go to a team like that.
Ever since I left Marousi I’ve wanted to go to Olympiacos, and we talked back then too. The transfer simply failed. Even back then, after Marousi, my first goal was to go to Olympiakos.
And after the NBA I wanted to go to Olympiakos, but it didn’t work out again. I wanted something different. I wanted to lead a team that had achieved nothing in recent years and contribute to its success in my own way. That’s what motivated me, what life gave me and what I wanted to do.”

Jokic may lose his chance to compete for NBA MVP award
Denver Nuggets announced Nikola Jokic He will miss at least four weeks due to left knee hyperextension.
The Serb is expected to miss all 18 matches in January and his maximum appearances this season could be limited to 64 matches. So Jokic will lose the opportunity to compete for the NBA’s main prizes – MVP and inclusion in the All-NBA, as this requires playing at least 65 games in the regular season.
Theoretically, he could return for the January 31 game against the Brooklyn Nets, which would give Nikola the opportunity to play 65 games before the end of the season, but that scenario is unlikely.
Jokic was injured in the last seconds of the first half of the match against Miami Heat (123:147) and did not return to the field after a long break. Before his injury, he managed to score 21 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds in just 19 minutes.
Jokic averaged 29.9 points, 12.4 rebounds and 11.1 assists per game this season.
