THE RACE
The game started with PAOK leading 6-3. But Panathinaikos responded with a 7-0 run and escaped with 6:10 and later 9:15. The “Greens” relied on the creation of Sluka (6 assists in the first period), with the international responsible for his team’s first 17 points and Panathinaikos closed the first period with a 18-22 lead.
At the beginning of the 2nd period, PAOK competed with more energy. Harrison found ways in attack, which, combined with the fact that Panathinaikos was stuck in attack when they had Vildosa, Grant and Grigonis in the field at the same time, resulted in Dikefalos taking a 26-25 lead.
The return of Sluka, Hernangometh and Lesor brought Panathinaikos back into balance. The “Greens” continued to find solutions by using Lesor (15 points in the first half) and ultimately ended the first half with a 33:38 lead thanks to a buzzer-beater 3-pointer from Guy.
Panathinaikos started strong in the third period and quickly increased the lead to 10 points (33-43). PAOK responded again and when Harrison took the initiative, the score was reduced to 43-46. However, the “Greens” had an answer and with Guy hitting consecutive three-pointers, they escaped the score again, with the difference eventually increasing to 20 points (45-65) at the end of the third period thanks to a buzzer-beater three-pointer from Vildosa.
It was now clear that the game had run its course. However, PAOK made a final counterattack and reduced to 12 points (62-74), forcing Ergin Ataman to restore his first five points, which ultimately sealed the victory.
