Ronen GINSBURG: “Prometheus has a tough group
Prometheus head coach Ronen Ginzburg talked about what he expects from the team’s new performance in the Eurocup.
– Last year’s team was great. We won 13 matches in a row in the Eurocup, I don’t think there are many teams that have achieved the same success before. But we have to stop comparing the team with the old team.
If we go back, we remember that this is how Prometheus started the last regular season of the EuroCup; He went 2-2 or 3-3 after the opening rounds and only found his rhythm over time. Everyone respects Prometheus, everyone knows that we have built a good team, but if you look at the composition of the members of our group, it is really crazy.
There are many clubs with serious goals. Also, the tournament system has changed a bit, now there are six teams in the group instead of eight, so obviously there will be more pressure.
– Semi-finals and finals in the EuroCup will no longer be held in a single match format, but will be held as a series of wins for one of the teams to reach two wins. Do you think the new formula could help Prometheus in the later stages of the tournament?
– I look at the new season the same as the previous season; We must first get into the top six in our group’s rankings, and then solve the problems that arise.
Probably, yes, it’s good that the miniseries is happening because Prometheus’ roster is deep now barring further injuries. But that’s not the top priority right now. We have a tough group and we need to finish in the top 6,” said Ginzburg.
Today, on October 4, Prometheus will play against Hamburg in the first match of the EuroCup at 19:00 Kiev time.
