An emotional Nikos Galis hugging the trophy, next to the coffin of Yiannis Ioannidis
Nikos Galis was visibly overwhelmed as he said goodbye to Yiannis Ioannidis and held one of the trophies they had won together.
Nikos Galis was visibly touched by the popular pilgrimage that took place in Alexandreio shortly before the exodus procession from “Xanthos” for Yiannis Ioannidis.
The camera even caught the Greek basketball gangster standing sadly next to “Xanthos” coffin, holding in his arms one of the trophies they won together during the years they were on Mars.
“The emotion is great. If I could describe Giannis in one word, I would say he was a man. Whatever he had to say to you, he said it straight to your face. He had a vision of it since he was a child.” I made Aris a great team and he succeeded. I had him as a big brother. He put the team above himself. He was a great person.
It is a difficult day for me and for all Martians. I would like to express my condolences to his family. He was a teacher and gave us a lot of advice. We had many good times together, many joys and very few worries. It’s true, neither I nor he could defeat. Some may have criticized him for his behavior, but as I told you, he was straightforward and I respected that. Nikos Galis mentioned it a little earlier.
