Olympiakos Piraeus failed against Riga, their first defeat in the Women’s EuroCup
Olympiacos fell to Riga in the 2nd round of the Women’s EuroCup, losing to the Latvian team at the Peace and Friendship Stadium (68-77).
Olympiacos suffered its first defeat in the Riga Women’s EuroCup at the Peace and Friendship Stadium (68-77).
The team from Latvia was dominant from the start of the game, asserting its tempo and steadily building a double-digit lead that reached 20 points (14-34) at the start of the second quarter.
Olympiakos coach Thanos Niklas was sent off in the second half as the Red and Whites tried to get back into the game, falling behind by eight points (64-72) in the fourth period. However, there was no full recovery and the Piraeus team lost for the first time in this year’s Women’s EuroCup.
Eleanna Christinaki and Christine Vitola were the top scorers for Olympiacos. The former scored 18 points (6 rebounds, 3 assists) and the latter 17 (7 rebounds, 2 assists). 11 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists).
On the next matchday of the competition, the Red and Whites will face Ruzoberok away (October 26th, 7:00 p.m.).
