Unicaja aim for third consecutive win in Vitoria visit
UnicahaAfter two consecutive wins against Joventut at home in the Endesa League and against Falco Vulcano Szombathely in the Basketball Champions League (BCL) in Hungary. Play on court in Baskonia on Sunday with the intention of extending their winning streak (6:30 p.m.) He also achieved his first victory as a visitor in a domestic tournament.
The match between Malaga and Vitoria teams is one of the classics of Spanish basketballThe 123 matches played between the two teams throughout history show that the Andalusian side has won 52 times and the Basque side 71 times.
Taking into account the regular phase matches of the Endesa League, 70 matches have been played so far, with Unicaja winning 34 and Baskonia 36.
The Vitoria team stands out in many ways, but one of them is the defense of the Fernando Buesa Arena Pavilion. This is a real fortress, where it proved itself in the previous season, where it won the regular stage of the national competition, where only Barça and Lenovo Tenerife were able to do it.
Despite Baskonia’s almost impregnable field, Unicaja have managed to achieve victory on several occasions, as they have been able to achieve 16 wins out of the 36 matches played in Vitoria.
In fact, in the last ten seasons of the regular league, Malaga teams have won five times. However, they have not won again at Buesa Arena since achieving it in the 2019-20 season (77-78) and 2020-21 season (70-79). The last time the two teams met was last season at the Martin Carpena Palace, where Unicaja lost 81-89.
Baskonia move to second place in the Endesa League standingsThey have won four games against Rio Breogan, Surne Bilbao Basket, Covilan Granada and Casademont Zaragoza, and lost once against UCAM Murcia, winning the last three games of the competition.
On the other hand, Unicaja is 10th They won twice at home against Lenovo Tenerife and Joventut, but lost to Casademon Zaragoza, Valencia Basket and Gran Canaria.
Sunday’s event will be special for coach Yvon Navarro, who trained as a coach at Baskonia and spent five seasons as an assistant coach and one year as head coach in 2014-15.

Crazy money. Cost of permanent NBA Europe franchises revealed
Unicaja President Antonio Nieto spoke about the project NBA Europe, which, according to preliminary plans, could start as early as October 2027, and noted that his club will try to get into the tournament through participation in the national league or the Champions League.
“We will never be an NBA franchise. These franchises will be located in very big cities, so that’s their idea; cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Istanbul, London, Paris… These are the teams that will create 12 permanent franchises and they say that they will have to pay about 500 million over 10 years for a television contract. Then there are 4 places that other teams participating in the Champions League or domestic leagues can enter every year and take one of these 4 places. Our goal is, as they say – Although I do not know all the rules Unlike the Euroleague, if we play one year in the NBA, the income will be similar or close to what the team owners get.
I don’t know who will leave or what transitions will occur. However, I think it would be a mistake for both leagues to exist at the same time. Clear and stable agreements are needed to bring basketball into order, as it is now the most unregulated of all sports. There cannot be 4-5 European competitions. People have a hard time understanding this, their interests diverge, players focus too much on the matches, injuries happen too often. And it is difficult to gather spectators in halls where there are so many matches. Economically this is unprofitable, this is absurd.
This is a matter of ego, and all parties need to come to the table and use common sense to create a logical system with one major league with economic control and real profits. A second strong league could provide an opportunity to enter NBA Europe, Euroleague or whatever it is called. “This would make sense and create a more coherent map of European basketball.”
Previously, the owner of the Euroleague club criticized the NBA Europe project.
