ESPN posted a fake VIDEO of Damian Lillard’s speech in a Bucks jersey on social media, which caused an uproar because it involved statements he made on television as a Blazers player. The American broadcaster released a statement explaining what happened.

In 2023, it is shockingly easy for someone to create a fake VIDEO. But when this is being done by one of the biggest sports networks in the world, it’s only natural that there would be an uproar. ESPN took care of it and made a move that caused a stir.

The major American broadcaster therefore uploaded a VIDEO on social media after Damian Lillard’s debut with the Bucks, which shows how the All-Star guard in the Milwaukee jersey makes statements and says: “I told you I didn’t come here to waste my time.

However, there was one detail: Lillard had actually made this statement as a Blazers player while playing in the 2020 Orlando “bubble,” so the VIDEO was fake!

But what had ESPN done and what was its mistake? The major broadcaster had edited the VIDEO and replaced the Blazers jersey with the Bucks jersey without making it clear in its post that it had made that change that caused the whole debacle.

Given the uproar that had ensued, ESPN quickly issued a statement a few hours later, but it was not an apology, stating: “Sometimes we try to combine sports moments from the past with temporary fantasy images and social media stories. While it was never our intention to mislead our viewers, we recognize that what happened has caused confusion.”
