FIBA: The Greek league has the third-worst points average among the top 16 leagues in the world
FIBA has released a study showing what is going on in player transfers and the use of domestic players in the 16 best leagues in the world – outside the NBA – with Greece having the third-worst average points per team, among others.
The Greek league is considered tough. Defenses have the first reason based on philosophy. These are known. And now there are… papers to prove it.
FIBA released an extensive survey of what is happening in all leagues of the top 16 leagues in the world (excluding the NBA). This research showed, among other things, that in the Greek league each team scored only 78.2 points per game in the 2022/23 season, the third-worst performance! The only leagues below are the VTB League (77.1 per game) and the BNXT (with teams from Belgium and the Netherlands) with an average of 78 points!
These numbers were announced by FIBA Migration Report. An annual survey carried out by the CIES (International Center of Sports Studies) and takes data from 16 best countries from all geographical regions where basketball is played. It tracks player flow worldwide, including the NBA Player flows from country to country, player nationality, age, Number of transfers, the participation of young U21 and foreign players in the national team Championships and leagues.
This study also mentions that Greece was second in the world in appeals to the BAT with 162 cases, with Turkey being the first but not caught (426 cases!) and Italy coming third with 153 cases.
Still Greece:

– Domestic players were involved in the game for an average of 11.4 minutes (Greece ranked 12th in 16 leagues, ahead only of Italy, Turkey, Israel and Spain), non-Americans had it 20.6 minutes and the Americans 21.2.
