Anfernee Simons needs surgery

Anfernee Simons suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb and will need surgery to repair the serious injury. The Portland Trail Blazers player was injured during the season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. The Blazers themselves announced that Simmons would be sidelined for four to six weeks.


Simmons, 24, continued the good form he showed last season by scoring 18 points and dishing out four assists in 27 minutes in a 123-111 loss to the Clippers.

He started all 62 games and averaged career highs in points (21.1 points per game) and assists (4.1 points). He matched his career high with an average of 2.6 rebounds per game. He played in 274 career games (98 starts), averaging 12.7 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.3 rebounds.
