‘Wenbanyamania’ is real and TV viewers are proof of it
Victor Wembaneyama’s NBA debut was a ratings success on ESPN.
French Pearl’s debut game against Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks, who took the lead with a great performance, recorded a 1.7% share on American networks and 2.99 million viewers. “Wenbanyamania” is a fact, and the only game in recent history that has surpassed his numbers is LeBron James’ debut game with the Lakers, which drew 3.36 million people to their television sets.
Although he was in foul trouble and lost the game 119-126, Wenbanyama had a good debut in the NBA with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals, but most importantly, he can do more. It left a positive impression. Despite not being the regular season opener, Spurs vs. Mavs is the most watched game of the season, surpassing Lakers vs. Nuggets (2.84 million) and Suns vs. Warriors (2.71 million).
