Mourning in American basketball following the death at the age of 37 of Anthony Johnson, who made history with a legendary 42-point throw against Damian Liard in an NCAA game in 2010, in a game that is still remembered.

The death of Anthony Johnson (1986, 1.89 meters) plunged American basketball into mourning. Johnson suffered a stroke on his daughter’s birthday a month ago and died in the early hours of Friday (November 2nd) Greek time. He was a father of three children while his wife is pregnant.

Johnson is not known to the general public, but in the United States he will always be remembered as the player who one night eclipsed Damian Lillard in the final of the NCAA Big Sky Tournament. It was the 2009-10 season when Johnson – as a Montana player – scored 42 points against current Bucks star Weber State, giving his team an improbable -20 (20-40) turnaround and eventual victory by 66 -65 provided.

Johnson had scored 34 of his 42 points in the second half, 21 of them in a row (!) in a legendary performance, leading his team to the final of the NCAA Tournament in a performance that is still remembered today. This ultimately didn’t lead to a professional career – although he did play in the Cyprus League for a time – because the explosive guard stopped the basketball.
