Vassilis Georgiou, the voice of AEK in 1968, has died
Mourning in Greek basketball and journalism as Vassilis Georgiou died at the age of 86.

The journalist made history with his description of AEK’s game against Slavia Prague in 1968, when Union won the Cup Winners’ Cup.
A little later, the EEC released a statement expressing its condolences on the death of Vassilis Georgiou.

“The man who went down in the history of Greek radio and sports as the “Vembo of basketball” died today at the age of 86. Journalist Vassilis Georgiou described the 1968 final in Kallimarmaro that crowned the AEK European Cup. The winner went down in history, he died in Patras, where he lived.
The President of the EEC Evangelos Liolios and the members of the Board of Directors. They express their deep sadness and condolences to his family and his son, also basketball journalist Sotiris. Vassilis Georgiou “marked” an entire era in which our beloved sport took its steps to establish itself in the Greek sporting landscape.
Rest in peace”.
