The Ukrainian women’s team played the first qualifying match of EuroBasket 2025 on Thursday, November 9. Our team in Belgrade suffered a crushing defeat against the Serbian team. Evgeny Murzin’s team scored more than 10 points in just one quarter.

From the first minutes of the meeting, Serbian women showed who was boss. They won the first quarter 26:8. In fact, the outcome of the match was predetermined. The home team maintained its superiority in the second and third quarters and gained a significant advantage. Only in the last ten minutes did the Serbian team allow the Ukrainians to score more than ten points. The last part of the match ended with the Balkan team leading by two points.

The Ukrainian team suffered too many losses. In addition, Evgeny Murzin’s team often tried to attack from behind the three-point line, but did so extremely unsuccessfully. Of course, the absence of team leader Alina Yagupova, who missed the match due to injury, also had an impact. But this is no excuse for the frankly disastrous performance of the national team. Ukrainians lost to the Serbs in all components.

The blue-yellow team will play a home match against the Portuguese national team in Riga on November 12 at 18.00.

Ukrainian basketball players will play the remaining qualifying matches in the autumn of 2024 and winter of 2025, especially against the team from North Macedonia, the third opponent in Group G.

Qualification for the final tournament of the continental championship will be awarded to the winners of each of the eight qualifying groups, as well as the four best second-placed teams in their quartet.
