Why Bartzokas called for a technical penalty 0.7 minutes before the end of the Olympiacos – Baskonia game with the score at 74-75
Anabumboula in the final at SEF, with Giorgos Bartzokas claiming a technical penalty before Walkup was reinstated in Fal.
Thursday evening (September 11th) was another one of those heartbreaking nights at SEF. Olympiacos was +10 in the first period, fell to -18 in the second, they made an extra effort in the second half and narrowly managed to win, but a basket from Cody Miller-McIntyre with 0.7″ gave Baskonia a huge one in the seventh period EuroLeague double game.
But what happened in the remaining time after Miller-McIntyre’s shot, when Piraeus had possession in half of the field and had the chance to take the decisive shot? Isaiah Kanan heard the whistle and began his move before referee Belosevic cautioned the Baskonia player (Mike Kotchar) for the touchline, which resulted in Olympiakos’ play being “stopped” and Bartzokas being informed that the Basque big man had committed a violation. In other words, that he stepped on the line that he did not step on, as can be seen from the video.
The red and white coach complained to the referees, called for a technical penalty, it was also said that Belosevic passed the ball to Walkup too late and we needed a little break in all the hustle and bustle to calm the mood and close the game finish pass from walkup and poor finish from Fal near the basket.
