Prometheus – Hapoel Tel Aviv. Prediction and announcement for the European Cup match

The meeting between Prometheus and Hapoel Tel Aviv will take place in Riga on Tuesday, November 14. The match will start at 19.00 Kyiv time.

Following last week’s away defeat against Lithuanian club Wolves, the same painful changes that club president Vladimir Dubinsky warned about began at Prometheus. In the last match against Riga Zelli, four players did not take part – Marcus Keane, Rashard Kelly, Vyacheslav Petrov and Andrei Voynalovich, who will most likely leave the club. Of course, the selection department is already looking for basketball players to replace them. But at the moment the Ukrainian club has only ten players, and with such a shortage the “giants” will have to play against the Israeli “Hapoel” from Tel Aviv, one of the strongest teams in our group and, in fact, the entire team. The European Cup as a whole.

Prometheus’ rival was created in 1935. In its eighty-eight-year long history, the Tel Aviv team has not won many trophies. Hapoel’s CV includes just five domestic titles (the last in 1969) and four Israeli Cups. However, this did not happen because Hapoel was a weak team, but because Israel had for too long the local best team and European continental giant Maccabi Tel Aviv, for whom domestic cups were in short supply only on very big holidays. The club also had its dark periods. So in 2007, due to huge financial problems, Hapoel was immediately transferred to the fifth league of Israeli basketball, but in 2012 it returned to red-white (the colors worn by the club). were given to local elites and most did not leave.

Our club’s closest rival does not regularly compete in continental tournaments. This is only the fourth time Hapoel has entered the European arena since the club’s return to the Israeli Premier League. Last season the club built a very strong squad and was among those competing to win the European Cup. However, in the quarter-finals Hapoel faced another favorite, Spaniard Joventut, and lost to him 74:82.

The situation is repeated this season. The Israeli club once again has a strong squad and is once again among the candidates for the highest places in Europe’s second biggest cup. The aggravation of the situation in Israel added great difficulties to Hapoel. Currently, the domestic championship of its rival Prometheus has not started and the team only plays European Cup matches away, it only managed to play its first round match at home. Hapoel’s match against the Lithuanian Wolves, which was supposed to be played in the second round, was also postponed indefinitely.

Results of Hapoel’s matches in the 2023/2024 European Cup:

October 3. Hapoel Tel Aviv (Israel) – Cedevita Olimpia (Slovenia) – 100:73

17 October. “Venice” (Italy) – “Hapoel Tel Aviv” (Israel) – 81:97

24 October. “Hamburg” (Germany) – “Hapoel Tel Aviv” (Israel) – 72:111

2 November. London Lions (England) – Hapoel Tel Aviv (Israel) – 90:98

8 November. “Paris” (France) – “Hapoel Tel Aviv” (Israel) – 114:87

The distinguishing feature of the Israeli team in the last two seasons is its very entertaining and offensive basketball game. Hapoel consistently ranks among the leaders of the European Cup in various categories of offensive statistics. Currently, Hapoel sits second in the tournament in terms of points, with an average of 98.6 points per game. Israelis are in first place with an average of 25 assists per match. In addition, three(!) representatives of Hapoel are among the five best snipers in the European Cup. These include American guard Javier Munford (18.6 points per game), Israeli forward Tomer Ginat (18.2 points) and another forward, this time from the USA, Jaylen Hoard (also 18.2 points). These players and Colombian forward Brian Angola (average of 14 points per game) can be called the leaders of the team.

If Hapoel has enough leaders, the fact that Prometheus has not yet found a player who can lead the team has also led to changes in the composition of the Slobozhan club. However, in this shortened version of the squad, the “titans” broke the streak of three consecutive defeats by beating the Latvian “Rigas Zelli” last Friday, 92:79.

However, today Ronen Ginzburg’s team will face an opponent of a completely different caliber. Hapoel are among the favorites for the European Cup and their attacking potential is capable of beating any defense in this tournament. “Prometheus” has begun an unplanned restructuring, and the Ukrainian club will definitely devote some time to it. I’m not saying that the Slobozhan team won’t have a chance to win today, but under these circumstances a hypothetical victory against the Israeli club is likely to be a pleasant surprise rather than an expected success.

Virtus Bologna hosted Olympiacos and almost staged a surprising comeback in the fourth quarter.

The home team won the first quarter with a score of 25:23, but then the game went sideways and at the big break the Greeks had a 9-point advantage – 50:41, and before the last minute of the third quarter the away team was ahead +20 – 77:57. The fate of the match seemed certain, but then Virtus got back into the game with a move at 18:3. There was an even game further down the field, where the home team tried to equalize the score, but Fournier’s three-pointer with a score of 92:93 and successful free throws helped the Greeks preserve the victory, but Virtus made a three-point shot for equal score at the last second through Alston’s efforts.

Dorsey scored 23 points and Fournier scored 21 points for Olympiacos.

OFFICIALLY. Ukraine national team player will play for the Adriatic League club

Croatian “Zadar” reported on its official website the transfer of a basketball player from the Ukrainian national team Ivan Tkachenko.

After a short trial period during which the Ukrainian player met the requirements of the coaching staff, a contract was signed with him at the end of the season.

The club has already announced that Tkachenko will participate in the Adriatic League and the Croatian Championship, so the Ukrainian can make his debut for the new team in the local championship match against Kvarner on December 27.

Tkachenko did not sign a contract with any club at the beginning of the 2025/26 season and played in only two official matches after the start of the season – as part of the Ukrainian national team, against Georgia and Denmark in November as part of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.

Last season Ivan played for Mitteldeutscher, where he won the German Cup. The forward, who played in 32 matches in the 2024/25 Bundesliga, averaged 4.9 points and 3.8 rebounds in 17.3 minutes.

During his club career, Tkachenko played for Ukrainians Cherkasy Mavpy and Prometheus, as well as Finland’s Helsinki Seagals.

Zadar is in sixth place in the Adriatic League Group B with 4 wins in 10 matches, and is in second place in the Croatian Championship with a score of 10-1.

“Start with me.” Doncic talked about what needs to change in the Lakers

Star player of Los Angeles Lakers Luka Doncic Against the background of the embarrassing defeat of Houston Rockets (96:119), he explained what the team had to change to improve the results:

“I don’t know exactly what needs to change, but something definitely needs to change. We need to figure it out, that’s what we need to do. Everyone should discuss it.”

I know JJ Redick said it would be disturbing. And that’s the way it should be.

As I said, we need to discuss this. It may be uncomfortable, but everyone needs to try harder, starting with me.

We just have to challenge each other. Everyone should challenge themselves and their teammates. “There’s no way to play the way we play, so we’ve got to be better than that.”
