The decisive attack in the second half of the match. Prometheus defeated Venice

On Wednesday, November 22, BC Prometheus (Ukraine) and BC Reier Venezia (Italy) met in the penultimate match of the first round of the Eurocup regular season. Ukrainian and Italian teams had 3 wins and 4 losses before the match.

In the week before this match, changes took place in the Slobozhansky club. The contracts with Keene and Petrov were terminated. Wojnalovich went to Poland on loan. Ronen Ginzburg’s team has been strengthened by former Monaco defender Rob Gray. Gray won the EuroCup with the Monegasques team in the 2020/21 season and became the MVP of the final and semi-final. He made his debut with the Titans in the following LEBL tour. In the match against Estonian Parnu, Gray became the most productive player and Prometheus won 80:49.

The first quarter of the match between “Titans” and “Venice” was a balanced fight. Unfortunately, the Slobozhan team suffered a lot of losses in simple situations, which definitely affected the final score of the first game period. Italians won the match with a minimal advantage: 20:21. Venice players started the second quarter much better and made a breakthrough of 7:0. It was quite difficult for Ginzburg’s team to balance the game, but they still managed to get out of the difficult situation. As a result, Venice won the first half of the match with a score of 44:40.

The start of the third quarter was unsuccessful for the Ukrainian team. In the first minutes, the Italians increased their advantage to nine points. But then “Prometheus” seized the initiative and gained the game advantage. After Lipovoy’s third long-distance shot of the match in the 26th minute, Prometheus finally took the lead after a long break, 59:58. The quarter ended with the giants winning by 5 points.

Sanon was “on fire” at the opening of the final quarter. His two accurate three-pointers helped the team keep the opponent at bay. Even in the first half of the quarter, the handicap of the Ukrainian team reached the limit of “10+”. The Italian club fought until the end. 86 seconds before the final siren, Tessitori reduced the gap with Venice to 4 points. However, his attempt to hit Prometheus’ basket from a distance at the last minute almost destroyed the Italians’ hopes. Leaving the Italians behind by 5 points in the last quarter, the Slobozhan team ended the match with a victory with a score of 89:82.

Titans won their second consecutive match in the Eurocup. After 8 matches, they had 4 wins and 4 losses. In the rankings, “Prometheus” is ahead of its current rival.

PLEKHANOV: “There are also a few points I would like to point out”

Head coach of “Kharkov Falcons” Valery Plekhanov He summarized the team’s 2025 results and talked about the preparations for the continuation of the season:

“Summing up the results of the calendar year, I want to congratulate all our fans on the upcoming New Year and Merry Christmas, wish our favorite team peace and good victories! “Kharkov Falcons” are the first players of this Super League season, so second place at the moment is a good result.

There are a few points we would like to emphasize separately. First of all, seven players from last season’s active squad won the Premier League together, but five of them never played in the Super League. Therefore, the experience they gained in the first half of this season is almost priceless. Secondly, Kharkiv Falcons are one of the two champion teams that did not play a single match at home. It’s very difficult when you’re not playing for your fans, you’re training in one gym, and you’re playing in a different gym every time, even on home tours. In these conditions, 4 defeats in 13 matches is a good result.

One of the most negative moments of this year was not being able to participate in the last four of the Ukrainian Cup. Unfortunately, we were a little unlucky in the draw. After an emotionally difficult and physically exhausting match with Krivbass, we did not have enough strength for the next match against Kiev-Basket in the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, our performances in the cup are over, but now we will be able to focus all our efforts on the championship.

Our main problem now is injuries. We have five injured players, three of whom have serious injuries that require a long recovery period. We’re about to get off to a very tough start to the new calendar season because the Falcons will be playing basketball six weekends in a row, which means six road trips with no rest time. If we could count on all twelve players in the squad at the beginning of the season, there will no longer be such a rotation. Therefore, all the responsibility and burden will fall on the players in the rankings. I hope they get over their injuries in the new year, recover from their injuries as soon as possible, return to work and help their beloved club properly represent Kharkiv in the Super League.

Despite the holidays, we have training scheduled almost seven days a week. “I really hope that by January 10 we will be a combat-ready team that can solve serious problems.”
