Terrence Ross announces retirement
Terrence Ross, an 11-year NBA veteran who won the dunk contest in his rookie season, has announced his retirement.
The former player, who rarely suffered from injuries, cited losing interest and motivation in basketball and loving spending time at home with his family as reasons for his early retirement (he is only 32 years old).
The former University of Washington star averaged 11.0 points per game with the Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic and Phoenix Suns (up from a career-high 15.6 points per game with the Magic in 2020-21). The man known as the Human Torch was an accomplished scorer and 3-point shooter (36.2 percent from beyond the arc) and came off the bench for most of his career.
“We’re all different. Some people want to play with their kids and their kids and play as long as LeBron James. And other people say, ‘I’ve had enough.’ Yeah, I had a great time. My knees hurt a little, and my body is a little beat up. Well, I’ve had quite a few surgeries.”
After announcing his retirement, the 32-year-old appeared at the Washington Wizards’ game against the Magic and received a standing ovation from fans.
