Kolossos was the boss in Palataki until the 28th minute, but from then on PAOK dominated, winning 93-81 and climbing back to a positive record after the 9th matchday of the Stoiximan Basket League.
The ninth matchday of the Stoiximan Basket League ended on Monday evening (December 4th) and ended with an impressive battle in Palataki between PAOK and Kolossos. The Thessalonians were even -14, but at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth period they stepped on the gas, turned the game around and won 93-81.
PAOK climbed to 5-4 (3-2 home and 2-2 away) and was aiming for seventh place and a place in the Final Eight of the Greek Cup. Andrew Harrison was hurting early in the middle, but he gritted his teeth and was impressively effective from the line, Kendall Smith and Justin Alston had their breaks, Elvar Fridrickson posted a double-double with points and assists, and Fotis’ team Takianou picked up the result comes with stubbornness and fighting spirit.
Kolossos fell to 3-6 (2-3 home and 1-3 away), with Gaudlock posing a constant problem for PAOK’s defense. The American had moments when he had no rival, unlike Luka Brajkovic who, by his standards, did not give what the colossus needed. Utomi, Jorgensen, Poli helped, but at one point and then the Rhodians collapsed. Of course, the injury to London Perantes, who only played 14:35 due to injury, also played a role.
PAOK, who had four times as many assists, made only six errors. 13-10 points from opponent mistakes, 40-34 points on the stick, 14-12 points from second chances, 18-15 points from surprises, 35-32 points from substitutes, 20-21 fouls and 26-14 made shots the two teams.
The Colossus surprisingly scored seven points in the first period, had a plurality and three players in the six points, so the 23-28 period was reasonable and fair. At half-time, the Rhodesians had 8/16 threes and 12 assists with four errors, while PAOK had just two long throws in seven attempts. Towards the end of the third period, Gaudlock went one-on-one and the hosts made the breakthrough there and took the lead (72:69) with a three-pointer from Fridriksson, who decided the game with his execution and creations.
