Yiannis Christopoulos is officially Apollon’s new coach, with Patrinos announcing the hiring of the Greek technician to replace Kostas Delegos.

Apollo’s agreement with Yiannis Christopoulos took an official form when the Patrinos announced the Greek technician’s takeover of the team’s technical leadership.

Christopoulos was Apollon’s choice to replace Kostas Delegos, who left the team after a short spell and will sit on the sidelines of the Patrina bench from now on.

The Greek coach took over the technical management of Prometheus last year and Apollo will be the next stage of his career in the Stoiximan Basket League.

The announcement in detail:

The Apollo family welcomes Yannis Christopoulos to its ranks, taking over the technical leadership of our beloved team.

Yiannis Christopoulos comes from Patrino and has successfully worked in our beloved team in the past (2005-06).

He also served as head coach at APOEL (2004–05) and in the Major Division of Greek Basketball at AE Larissa (2006–07), Olympiada (2007–08), Trikala (2008–09) and last year at Promethea.

He has a lot of experience at the highest level, as he was at FC Bayern Munich in the 2011/12 season, first as Dirk Bauermann’s partner and then as Bayern’s first coach.

He was then assistant to Panagiotis Giannakis in the Chinese national team from 2013 to 2016 (and remained on the bench after coach Giannakis’ departure), with whom he took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

He then took over the Beijing Ducks (2017-2022) in the Chinese League, while in 2019 he returned to the bench of the Chinese national team as Li Nan’s partner.

John, welcome to our family. May you be healthy and be sure that we all fight together and achieve our goals.

Yannis Christopoulos said: “These are the moments when the team rises above everyone else. Thank you.”
