Prometheus recovered from a -21 deficit, but Kolossos triumphed in an unimaginable defeat in overtime
Prometheus Patras – led by Anthony Cowan – made a strong effort to come back from -21, but Kolossos sent the game into extra time. There the Rhodians had more strength and solutions and finally prevailed with 114-109 (100-100 ka) in an exciting and satisfying game.
In Rhodes, unimaginable things happened in the game that raised the curtain on Game 10 of the Stoiximan Basket League. Prometheus Patras lost to Kolossos Rhodes by 21 points (70-49) early in the third period and led 98-100 with 9 inches left, but London Perantes sent the game to overtime. Five minutes into extra time, Kuro Segura’s team had more solutions and strengths to finally prevail 114-109 in a game that was not lacking in spectacle, excitement and results.
Perantes was outstanding throughout the game, scoring 27 points with 5 rebounds and 8 assists in 40’55 minutes of play. Luka Brajkovic achieved the double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Tyler Poli had 18 points and 7 rebounds. Andrew Goudlock and Sotiris Billis each added 14 points.
From Elias Papatheodorou’s team, Anthony Cowan was sensational, flirting with a triple-double with 30 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. The contribution of Jaime Etzenike with 19 points and 10 rebounds and Cameron Reynolds with 20 points and 6 rebounds was also valuable.
The race
After Tyler Pauli quickly scored 10 points and Luka Brajkovic added another 9, the Colossus ended the first period with a 33-25 lead. Prometheus scored an 8-0 run and tied the game at 33:33 (11:40″), while the two teams played a draw until the 15th minute (40:39). The Rhodians went into double figures at 57:47 They took the lead in the 19th minute and kept it until halftime (59-49, 20th).
The difference increased to 21 points (70-49) at 23:30, but this did not deter Elias Papatheodorou’s team at all, which did not stop fighting until the last fall. Prometheus initially reduced to single digits (82-49). 73) at 31:30″, while Anthony Cowan took action and scored 15 points from that point to put the game in the basket with 30″ to go (97-95).
Paulie took a shot. Cowan did the same before Chrysikopoulos collected the offensive rebound after the second miss and Cowan hit a huge 3-pointer that earned him a foul. All of this meant it was 98-100 with 9 inches to go, but the Colossus didn’t have the final say yet. Goudlock increased to a three-pointer, missed the target, but Perantes renewed the attack and scored with the exhalation to make it 100-100, which decided the match and extended it to five minutes.
In overtime, the home team had more strength, a clearer head and more solutions and ultimately won 114:109.
