Cavaliers problem: Darius Garland and Evan Mobley will be out for several weeks

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without Darius Garland and Evan Mobley for at least a month.

Garland was diagnosed with a broken jaw from the injury he sustained Thursday night against Boston. The team announced Friday that he will undergo treatment to heal the affected area and will be re-examined in about four weeks.


Mobley is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery to remove a loose body in his left knee on Monday. The team announced that he will be out for approximately six to eight weeks.

Garland, 23, averaged 20.7 points, 5.9 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 20 games (all starts) this season.

He was selected as an All-Star in the 2021-22 season and averaged 18.7 points and 6.7 assists in 270 games (266 starts) since Cleveland selected him fifth overall in 2019.

Mobley, 22, has already missed the past four games with knee pain and will eventually undergo surgery. He is averaging 16.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and shooting 57.3 percent from the field in 21 games (all starts) this season, joining Giannis Antetokounmpo and Domantas Sabonis as the only players in the entire NBA. He finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for 55 points. Percentage of shots from the field.

Mobley was named to the NBA All-Defensive Team last season and has averaged 15.7 points and 8.9 rebounds in 169 games (all starts) since being selected with the third overall pick by the Cavaliers in 2021.
