The All Star Game brought Karditsa back to life, leaving the difficulties behind and looking forward

A wonderful two-day basketball match came to an end in Karditsa, where the great stars of the Greek courts as well as legends of the past visited the closed “Yiannis Bourousis” and, together with the dynamic presence of the audience, created a festive atmosphere for the players and the fans was fun.

Karditsa was the center of the Greek basketball world on the two days of December 16th and 17th, with the All Star Game filling the closed “Yiannis Bourousis” with fans to watch the top players and coaches of the Greek courts as well as legends of the past, including two European champions with the Greek national team at Euro 2004.

The Thessalian city was badly affected by the devastating floods, which also hit the Karditsa Stadium, from which the team had to “evacuate” and start back-to-back away games in the Stoiximan Basket League.

A few months later, Karditsa finds her footing again. The renovated “Yiannis Bourousis” hall is a jewel for the city, as the stadium looks new after the corrective measures, the replacement of the parquet and the addition of a new folding stand, which increased the capacity of the team’s home stadium.

The Thessalian city took advantage of the opportunity of ESAKE to organize a basketball celebration, with the holding of the All Star Game adding color and a cheerful atmosphere to Karditsa.


The big stars of Greek basketball, but also top coaches from the Stoiximan Basket League were present and offered a rich spectacle in a game in which statistics, points and winners were hardly important.

The main event was clearly Team Walkup versus Team Sluka, but the game between the veterans the day before brought back memories and fond memories, not just from the basketball court, but from the soccer field as well.


Two European champions from the Greek national team’s 2004 European Championship epic, Thodoris Zagorakis and Angelos Charisteas, put on their basketball shoes and took to the pitch to add a different flavor to the two-day celebrations.

Two days of basketball in a festive atmosphere that only did the sport good. The residents of Karditsa responded and filled the stadium, thoroughly enjoying the opportunity they were given to watch the biggest stars compete on the Greek pitches up close.
