Another match on December 23 at 19:00 Latvian-Estonian Basketball League Prometheus will play away against Valmiera club. This team represents the Latvian city of Valmiera, located close to the Estonian border and 100 km from the country’s capital, Riga.

Basketball club Valmiera was founded in 1994. The team’s biggest success was winning the Latvian Championship in the 2015/16 season. Valmiera became the bronze medalist of the championship three more times (seasons 2002/03, 2004/05, 2012/13). From 2007 to 2009 the team was managed by Ainars Bagatskis, with whom Valmiera twice took 5th place in the national championship.

Recently, rival Prometheus could not come close to winning the 2015/2016 season. In the LABL, the team could not rise above 10th place and was constantly out of the play-offs. Valmiera had a bad start this season, too, with 4 wins and 12 losses in 16 matches in the league.

Prometheus’ opponent has three foreign players on its roster, including Ukrainian center Ivan Tokovenko, a Cherkassy basketball graduate. However, Ivan has little playing time so far and is losing the competition to Slovakian Maros Zeliznyak in this position. The third legionnaire in Valmiera is 19-year-old Bosnian Harun Zrno.

The role of the winner of the conflict belongs to Prometheus. However, the Ukrainian club will need to verify its status on the site.
