Big bill for Doc Rivers: $40 million over three years with Bucks
The Bucks decided to change tack in order to get a ring, and to do so they hired the services of a man who knew what it meant to win a ring. Doc Rivers will take over Milwaukee’s bench, but the Bucks will have to dig deep to do so. As Shams Charania reported, Doc Rivers’ contract has been extended through the 2026-27 season, reaching $40 million, plus the settlements of Mike Budenholzer and Adrian Griffin.
Rivers played for Marquette from 1980 to 1983 and has many ties to Milwaukee, as his No. 31 jersey hangs in the rafters of Fiserv Forum.
The former NBA point guard started his career on the bench with the Orlando Magic (1999-2003), but left to join the Celtics (2004-13), where he won a ring.
After completing his cycle in Boston, he coached the Los Angeles Clippers (2013-20) and Sixers (2020-23), but failed to live up to expectations in those two stages. He won 1,097 regular season games, just shy of Larry Brown for eighth place in NBA history.
