Former NBA center Marcin Gortat said the league should adopt a rule regulating the length of players’ nails.
As an example, he recalled his duels with former teammate Dwight Howard, because of which the Pole “bleeded in every training session.”
– Covering Dwight in a game is a completely different story than covering him in practice. There were training sessions where I almost hit him in the face.
I bled every training session. Every time my lip and hands were scratched. I still have scratches, all from Dwight. He never cut his nails.
Gortat, 39, added that the NBA should consider requiring players to cut their nails regularly.
– This should be the rule. It’s bad, not from a cosmetic point of view, whether your nails are good or not. I’m talking about the medical aspect,” Gortat was quoted as saying by Reuters, citing the HoopsHype podcast.
In the NBA, Gortat played for Orlando, Phoenix, Washington and the Los Angeles Clippers.
