President of the Russian Basketball Federation (RFB) Andrei Kirilenko explained why Yekaterinburg will host the “Final Four” of the Russian Cup among men’s teams.
The venue for the decisive games was announced on Friday. Ekaterinburg’s Uralmash, St. Petersburg’s Zenit, Moscow’s MBA will play in the Final Four; the capital’s Runa and Paris Nizhny Novgorod will compete for the final spot. The matches will take place on March 15–17.
— The “Final Four” of the Russian Cup among men’s teams will be held in Yekaterinburg, as was the case for women. It is very representative and looks great, in principle, as a city for basketball, which is why the men’s Final Four is going there. Basketball is developing very actively in the Sverdlovsk region, and we want to reward the fans who went so actively to basketball. The women’s team has already won the Russian Cup, now let’s see what will happen to the men’s team, whether Uralmash will be able to give a fight,” Kirilenko is quoted as saying by the Championship.
