The best team in the NBA made Biden look like a fool. They simply didn’t care about the wishes of the US President

Denver had more important things to do than meeting with the head of state.

In the United States, there is a tradition in which the champions of various sports leagues meet with the president at the White House. However, this time the current head of state, Joe Biden, apparently is not destined to see the best NBA team of last season. Denver management decided to cancel the meeting for a very unusual reason.

Forgetful President

Meetings between the head of state and the strongest sports teams are held regularly. Presidents try to bestow attention on the champions of all leading leagues. Thus, Washington met with Donald Trump in 2018, when they won the Stanley Cup.

But the flamboyant politician’s relationship with basketball players was not so smooth. It all started with an open conflict between Trump and the Golden State, after which not a single NBA team came to the meeting until the change of president.

But now there is a different owner in the White House. Biden has a warmer relationship with basketball players. He tries to regularly meet with NBA champions, however, these events do not always go according to plan. In 2023, poor memory played a cruel joke on the head of state. While listing the players involved in the Warriors’ success, he forgot about Klay Thompson.

“We made a difficult decision”

Last season, Denver became the NBA champion. Biden wanted to personally congratulate the basketball players and invited them to the White House. Initially, the meeting was scheduled for January, when the “Nuggets” were supposed to play with the Wizards in Washington. But it had to be postponed to March 18 due to scheduling conflicts.

It was assumed that the game with Minnesota, scheduled for the day after the meeting with the president, would not have much tournament significance, but within a month and a half the situation had changed. Denver is now in third place in the Western Conference, with one win less than leading Minnesota.

The importance of this meeting from the point of view of future seeding in the playoffs cannot be overestimated. Therefore, the Denver management decided to focus on basketball and not waste energy on flying to Washington. This was reported by league insider from Bleacher Report and TNT Chris Haynes.

Just last week I was told that Denver was concerned that the game with the Minnesota Timberwolves had become more important than expected when the meeting with the president was postponed. The Nuggets have made a difficult decision; they are canceling their trip to the White House. “I want to be clear: this was purely a basketball decision,” Sports Illustrated quoted Haynes as saying.

Be that as it may, the NBA champion simply did not give a damn about the president of the country, making it clear that a meeting with him was of dubious value. In this light, doubts arise whether Biden will even be able to meet with the NBA champions as president. On November 5, America faces elections, after which Trump may once again settle in the White House.
