Bryant’s championship ring, which he gave to his father, sold at auction for almost $1 million
Former Los Angeles Lakers player Kobe Bryant’s championship ring from the 2000 NBA Finals, which he gave to his father, was sold at a Goldin auction for $927,000, ESPN reports.
The names of the buyer and seller have not been released; 19 bids were made on the final day of the auction. Auction organizers say this is the most expensive Bryant award sold publicly. In 2013, the ring was purchased at a Goldin auction for $173,000.
The record amount paid for a championship ring in sports is $2.1 million, the same price that was used to buy Babe Ruth’s 1927 ring at auction in 2017.
Five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant died at the age of 41 in a plane crash near Los Angeles. Then eight more people died, including the 13-year-old daughter of a basketball player.
