Baltzkas says this was the final foul against Parker.
Barça achieved a valuable victory (80-82) against Olympiakos in Piraeus and regained home field advantage in the Euroleague playoffs. But the Barça side’s joy contrasts with the harsh criticism of the Greek team, who believe the referee harmed them with the decisive play of the match.
With the score and possession tied at 80-80, Roger Grimaud called a timeout to plan his final play. Barça had three seconds to execute their final attack and the throw-in went to Jabari Parker. Defended from distance by Filip Petrushev, the American dived toward the Serbian center and was fouled while attempting a triple. After checking the video to see if the action was in time, the referee decided it was (5/10 of the time) and Parker headed to the line to get the first two free throws, making three I intentionally left out the real thing.
“How could they blow a whistle like that on the last kick of the game? Their player was here and he jumped forward to where our defender was (played it himself). The referee I don’t want to criticize him, but that decided the match.”The coach criticized Olympiakos’ Georgios Bartsokas, clearly angry at the referee’s decision on the triplets.
