Brooklyn Nets retire Vince Carter’s 15th number
The Brooklyn Nets are set to retire Vince Carter’s No. 15 jersey, but the news comes just weeks after it was revealed that the high-flying specialist will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Carter played four and a half seasons with the Nets while in New Jersey, averaging 23.6 points. He scored 2,070 points in the 2006-07 season, setting the franchise’s single-season scoring record. Carter ranks third in franchise history in points scored and is in the Nets’ top 10 in many other categories.
Winning NBA Rookie of the Year with the Raptors in 1999, the Toronto team traded him to New Jersey on December 17, 2004, and played for the Nets in the 2008-09 season. His final season, 2019-2020, was with the Atlanta Hawks, making him the only player in NBA history to play for 40 years.
Carter becomes the seventh Nets player to have a retired jersey. In addition to Kidd, the other members are Julius Erving, Buck Williams, Drazen Petrovic, “Super” John Williamson, and Bill Melchioni.
