A biathlon star and a ballet legend will play in a basketball match at SPIEF

Famous politicians, businessmen, athletes, artists and public figures will take part in the Roscongress Basketball Cup as part of the Sports Games of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The traditional basketball event at SPIEF will again be held in the format of a confrontation between Moscow and St. Petersburg. The match will take place on June 7 at the KSK Arena. Starts at 18:30.
The match was co-organized by the Roscongress Foundation’s sports platform RK-Sport, the Zenit basketball club and the Trade Union Sports Club.
For the first time, biathlete Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht and second soloist of the Mariinsky Theater Yuri Smekalov will play basketball at SPIEF.
In the spring of 2024, Yurlova-Perkht completed her sports career. Her main achievement was winning the 2015 World Championships in the individual race. The Leningrad native’s gold remains the last for Russian biathletes at the world championships. Yurlova-Perkht regularly attends matches of BC Zenit, which won bronze medals in the VTB United League in the 2023/2024 season, and now she will take to the floor of the blue-white-blue arena.
The living legend of Russian ballet Yuri Smekalov is also directly related to sports. For many years he has been collaborating with the famous figure skating coach Alexei Mishin. As a choreographer, Smekalov staged iconic programs for two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko, world champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, European champions Alexandra Boykova and Dmitry Kozlovsky and other Russian figure skaters.
By tradition, Alexander Medvedev, Chairman of the Board of FC Zenit, will speak for the St. Petersburg team. The Moscow team will include SPIEF participants.
The SPIEF Sports Games program will include more than 20 events in 18 sports. More than 20 winners and medalists of the Olympic Games, World and European Championships will take part in the Forum.
