Sergio Rodríguez has decided to put an end to his career. The 38-year-old Canary Islands point guard announced his retirement from basketball via social networks. “The time has come to put an end to my sports career,” said Chacho, who was about to terminate his contract with Real Madrid.

There had been speculation in recent weeks that Rodriguez would write the final chapter of his career with his home team, La Laguna Tenerife, but the point guard has finally decided to put his finishing touches there.

Rodríguez is one of the most successful point guards in Spanish history. Throughout his long career, he has played for Spanish teams (Estudiantes and Real Madrid), European teams (CSKA Moscow and Armani Milan) and the NBA (Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers). He played a decisive role in the various successes of Spanish teams. He has been outstanding at club level with Real Madrid in three EuroLeagues, winning MVP in one of them, winning league champion titles with Italy, Russia and Spain, and was part of the EuroBasket World Cup winning team and a silver medal at the Olympic Games.
