Marc Gasol on his generation: ‘It was a remarkable group of people’
Marc Gasolformer basketball player, discussed at press conference before preparatory meeting Valencia Pre-Olympic Between Spain and Italy he was honoured from the stands. WiZink Center in Madridsaying that the generation he was part of on the national team was “an extraordinary group of people.”
“This was an extraordinary group of people, with some really special people and very talented players. Plus, we got along very well over the years. It’s significant to see that that spirit that existed almost 20 years ago is still present today. It’s not so normal to sacrifice personal and family time to spend with your colleagues,” he said.
When asked about his feelings off the court, he said: “My role as a player is becoming more and more distant. Those great summers with the national team are very far away for me. This year is a transition to normal life. I’m having a lot of fun“
“I really miss competing, but I cherish being with my family and being able to start a project where we can participate, contribute and learn. I encourage the kids to achieve the complex goals they set by competing in groups and helping each other to do something really different and new,” he added.
Speaking about the current group, he said: “There are always complexities and challenges ahead. Each generation has its own challenges and it depends on what state of mind they are in and how they face them. This generation has its own challenges and it depends on what mindset they have. Scariolo “We are confident that we can beat them, the leaders, and the rest of the Spanish basketball world. We don’t know if that means a medal. We have to continue working with the same humility and ambition, and that will put us where the competition will show us.”
“Together they have suffered, won and lost. They know each other very well and the trust that you get when you’ve lived together for days and experienced good and bad times means you know what you’re going to need when you face a new challenge. I think the experience they’ve had together is very positive,” he said.
The team now plays in the Valencia Pre-Olympique from 2 to 7 July for a place in the Paris 2024 tournament: “It’s important, it’s a very fast and complicated competition, we have to fight hard every day. Also, in friendlies like today, we hope to get to know each other better and be at our best in preparation for the official matches. Health is also very important, so I just wish them good luck and good health,” Marc told Efe at a press conference in Wijnink.
Likewise, he said that he could not highlight any more special moment in his career, since he was fortunate to experience so many. He congratulated Sergio Rodríguez on his career, thinking that “Chacho” “always had a smile on his face while playing basketball”, and denied becoming a coach: “I would love to teach and collaborate, but I don’t have the time to be involved for weeks on end. For now, I don’t see that possibility.”
But he also commented on the noticeable exodus of young players from the Spanish quarry, saying: “When players look in the mirror and decide what is best for them, they have to be conscious and responsible, but depending on their age it gets a little more complicated. You’re immature.”
“Clubs have a responsibility to give opportunities, to bet on young people, to push them forward and give them time to evolve. It’s a conversation that needs to be had between all of us to give them the opportunity to evolve and not have to go elsewhere because of a mermaid song,” he concluded.

Jokic may lose his chance to compete for NBA MVP award
Denver Nuggets announced Nikola Jokic He will miss at least four weeks due to left knee hyperextension.
The Serb is expected to miss all 18 matches in January and his maximum appearances this season could be limited to 64 matches. So Jokic will lose the opportunity to compete for the NBA’s main prizes – MVP and inclusion in the All-NBA, as this requires playing at least 65 games in the regular season.
Theoretically, he could return for the January 31 game against the Brooklyn Nets, which would give Nikola the opportunity to play 65 games before the end of the season, but that scenario is unlikely.
Jokic was injured in the last seconds of the first half of the match against Miami Heat (123:147) and did not return to the field after a long break. Before his injury, he managed to score 21 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds in just 19 minutes.
Jokic averaged 29.9 points, 12.4 rebounds and 11.1 assists per game this season.

Cherkasy Mavp Captain: “I am not very happy with the team’s result”
Leader and captain of “Cherkasy Mavp” Kirill Marchenko summarized the first part of the season for the team.
– Kirill, the team has entrusted you with the captain’s armband. What does this mean to you and when did you learn about this decision?
– First of all, it is responsibility and, to some extent, experience. I learned that at the first training after the departure of Andrei Agafonov, the coach said that we need a new captain. The men chose me.
I won’t hide it, I was ready for this. I had a feeling that I would now be the captain of the team.
– Agafonov was a very strong leader both on the field and in the locker room. Which of his approaches and principles would you like to bring to your role as captain?
– Yes, indeed, Andrei was a very important figure in our team, on the field and in the locker room. I definitely think it’s discipline and professionalism.
– The first half of the season is over. How do you evaluate this period as a team?
– I’m not very happy with the team’s result. I know we are capable of doing more. Of course, Andrei’s dismissal had an impact, but this is not an excuse. We have to go out and do our job.
– There were a few games where the Mavps lost their advantage during the game. What do you think is still missing from the team to consistently win such matches?
– Yes, there were many matches where we lost while we were ahead with 2-3 minutes left in the match. I think I just lacked basic concentration, maybe a bit of luck.
– The team completed its campaign in the Ukrainian Cup after the first match. How painful was this relegation process for the players?
– Every lost game hurts. Of course, it was sad to be eliminated after the first match, we wanted to win and make it to the Final Four. “Hoverla” took its revenge last year. We beat them in the first game of the cup bubble in Cherkasy last season, maybe that was their additional motivation.
– The season is in full swing, but the New Year holidays are approaching. Can the team regroup a bit?
– I think we will have 2-3 days off to start again. Maybe someone will see family and friends. This is also important for morale.
